ABOUT
BOWIE STARR (They/He) is an award-winning Trans/Non-Binary filmmaker, actor and LGBTQ+ activist, who creates with an aim to activate new ways of thinking, using universal metaphors to bridge & break binary barriers.
An Outfest & Sundance screening producer, Starr’s most recent works include BE SCENE: AN LGBTQIA+ ACTORS SHOWCASE (producer, actor), directed by Emmy-nominated actress Rain Valdez and selected to screen at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival as part of the GLAAD x Outfest Queer House @ Sundance & GEN Z (producer, actor, writer) which was a Grand Jury Winner at the 2020 Outfest Fusion Film Festival and screened at the 2020 Outfest LA LGBTQ Film Festival in August of 2020.
Other completed film works include ONE WORD: A CUT x Rain Valdez collaboration featuring trans women & non-binary people of color (producer), IT ME (producer, actor; Outfest Fusion 2020 premiere), THEY (producer, actor, writer; a collaboration with HopeLab.org), I DEFINE ME (producer, actor, writer; a collaboration with Free2Luv.org) THE CURSE(producer; Outfest LA 2018 premiere), ONE OF THE FLOWERS (producer, actor, writer) & INTO THE BLACK (actor).
Written works in development include scripted series, HU|MAN, which was selected for a live-script reading with Now>Ever, Rain Valdez's production company in October of 2019, & was a selected semi-finalist for the 2020 Outfest Screenwriting Lab.
A student of the ActNOW LGBTQ+ Acting Classes since January of 2019, Bowie has had the honor of training with Rain Valdez (Why Women Kill, Razor Tongue), Jamie Clayton (Sense8) & Cassandra James (General Hospital).
